A typical pet dental treatment
A dental procedure on your pet is one of the most effective ways to limit or eradicate oral issues and relieve an animal from pain or discomfort. These procedures are typically done whilst your pet is under anaesthetic to ensure they remain calm and free from pain throughout.
The veterinarian will commonly begin the procedure by removing any build-up of plaque or tartar that has formed on your pet’s teeth. Once this has been cleared, it is much easier to identify any issues related to the gums, cracks in teeth and also root infections and the spread of oral disease. More often than not, it is only once this build-up of plaque is removed that the true causes of your pet’s dental pain can be identified.
Dental radiographs are routinely taken of your pet’s teeth during the dental procedure. These dental radiographs reveal the health and condition of the structures underneath the gum line. This helps to find hidden problems such as infections around the tooth roots, broken or even reabsorbed tooth roots, and receding sockets. Some of these issues may not be evident by simply looking at the teeth, even though these conditions will lead to poor oral hygiene, health conditions and pain. For this reason, dental radiographs are taken at Cherrybrook Vet Practice for each pet that undergoes a dental procedure.
Depending on the issues presented, the veterinarian will assess and may need to carry out further procedures. You of course will be kept in the loop on the status of the treatment and liaised with about ongoing procedures.
